Today there are far too many ways that the State can take your driving privilege away from you. You don’t even have to get a ticket—failing to pay child support, not doing court-ordered community service, or even failing to complete high school can cost you your license! However, the most common reasons for losing a license are failing to pay a ticket, or getting too many tickets.

If there is a hidden trap to the motor vehicle laws of North Carolina, it is Driving While License Revoked. The law says that if your license gets revoked for any reason, and you are convicted of any moving violation when your license is already suspended, the DMV can extend your revocation. A first offense will add one year to your suspension; a second will add two years; a third offense will permanently revoke your driving privilege! Even if you have had your license restored to you, a conviction of a ticket you got when you had been revoked will let them take it from you again.

If you have been charged with Driving While License Revoked, you absolutely should talk to an attorney. While the charge is serious, it can still often be resolved without you going to court and in such a way that you are able to get your license back. If you have multiple unpaid tickets, do not just pay them off! While it may appear that you are fixing your license problems, you may end up making them worse. I can analyze your driving record and find where the problems are, then come up with a plan to fix them which will make your situation better, not worse.

If your license is already suspended, please call me as well. I have helped many clients get their driving privilege restored without even having a DMV hearing simply by going through their record and fixing issues in the past that have added up to problems in the present. The consultation is free, so it is in your best interest to call me and talk about how I may be able to help you get driving again legally.
